We were excited to get our season started on a return to Sturgeon Bay this year. We had high hopes after last year's 12th place finish and 6 pound 11 ounce small mouth Big Bass. We prefished for a couple days and had trouble finding big small mouth due to still having ice on the lakes in many spots. We ended up finding a large school of large mounth bass and decided that bringing in a full limit was better than no fish at all.
On tournament day we started in our large mouth spot and the fish were all around us but we couldn't get them to strike. We fished the area for a good six hours and had no action. Finally, the first largemouth was put in the boat at 3 pounds 8 ounces on a Gary Yamamoto senko. We then began to load the boat. The largemouth turned on and we really started beating them up. We ended up coming in with just over 14 pounds, which isn't very much on Sturgeon Bay but it was nice to have a limit to start out the season.
