I'm always on the lookout for new baits to try out. Sometimes the new baits work out really great and become new favorites, and sometimes, well, let's just say I'm not so sad when they get lost. On a recent fishing weekend I was able to try a new Snag Proof bait that was given to me to try out at iCast. Connie gave it to me and challenged me to go and catch a nice big bass with it. Since I use a lot of the American-made Snag Proof's line up already (like Ish's Phat Frogs, Bobby's Perfect Frog, and Pro-Series Frogs), I didn't hesitate to accept that challenge.
The bait is called Curly-Q. The bait is a spinner bait with a hallow body plastic that comes to a twister tail. The idea is to represent a tadpole with a little flash. It also is spot on for representing bait fish.

I was out fishing a couple days later and I immediately began throwing the bait on grass lines on the Mississippi River. One of the nice things about this bait is that you can reel it over the slop, drop it in the pockets, and spin it out. I first caught a couple of northerns. Then I started hooking short bass, before I caught this nice 17 3/4" largemouth. It weighed in at 3 1/4 pounds, which is a good tournament fish. I was able to keep using the bait for a while after the big one, and I caught a few other legal bass before I lost the lure to a toothy fish. Suffice it to say, I was sad when I lost this bait.
Overall the Curly-Q is a great bait with excellent results - the proof is in the pictures. I threw it for about 45 minutes before I lost it, and landed around 15 fish with it. That's a fun time! It's a great addition to the Snag Proof family of baits and will catch fish consistently. It's earned a place in my tackle box!
